Greatest
This is not a greatest hits album, despite the title. It contains all- original songs written by Chan Marshal (professionally known as Cat Power), and features the great Memphis session musicians Teenie Hodges on guitar, Leroy Hodges on bass (Al Green, Hi Rhythm Section), drummer Steve Potts, and more. The combination of Marshall's superbly evocative and flexible voice plus some of the greatest Southern soul players, has produced a masterpiece. These songs explore themes of Southern loss, longing, and marginality. The limited first digipak pressing and regular single vinyl contain a bonus track. After the first pressing sells out, the regular jewelcase version will not contain a bonus track.
Stripped
True to its title, Stripped, the audacious new RCA Records release from Christina Aguilera, strips away the last remnants of her previous teen idol persona and what s left is as real as it gets. The sixteen new tracks that comprise Stripped, including her sensational debut single, Dirrty, showcases an unadorned, unfettered and fearlessly outspoken artist who has liberated herself, her soul and her music on an album that is as much a declaration of independence as it is a convincing demonstration of her fierce and original talent. Simply put, this is the real deal. Stripped has yielded a production and songwriting team that includes, among others, Pink producer Linda Perry; the team of Redman and Rockwilder; Alanis Morrissette producer Glenn Ballard; fast rising studio wizard Scott Storch, as well as artist/producer Alicia Keys.
Robbers & Cowards
A propulsive rhythm section and Nathan Willett's ardent vocals make every song sound like some indie-rock version of gospel music, and that's not even taking into account the lyrics, which offer up religious and literary references that would be almost unbearable in band less genuine. The album also benefits from a vintage, tube-amp/analog-tape warmth that makes the music even more emotionally accessible. The highlight here is Hang Me Up to Dry, on which Willett's bluesy wail makes it seem as if he's singing to save his very soul--or yours. Before releasing this 2006 full-length album, California's Cold War Kids toured relentlessly, released some EP's, and whipped the nation's youth into an evangelical rock-&-roll frenzy with their charismatic stagecraft and songsmithery, which updates classic rock conventions with a bit of angular, post-punk experimentation. Judging by the tunes here, the enthusiasm is well-deserved.
X&Y
X&Y is the third and long awaited follow-up album to Rush Of Blood To The Head and Parachutes by one of the most successful British bands of all time, Coldplay. Includes the new single Speed Of Sound and 11 other tracks.
Like Water For Chocolate (Explicit Version)
With his combination of hip-hop braggadocio and current news gripping music, Common is taking rap music to the new standard. The Chicago native decided on his moniker, Common Sense, for its natural feel. As the result of a copyright lawsuit filed by a company using the same name, it was later drilled down to the current name. Other albums by Common include, Resurrection and On Day It'll All Make Sense.
