Heroes To Zeros
With props in John Cusack's High Fidelity for their classic '3 EPs' and a much-lauded US tour with Radiohead, The Beta Band have established themselves as one of the most innovative and adored groups from the UK. Their third official album HEROES TO ZEROS captures the focused immediacy and power of their epic live shows, while maintaining the sample-tastic digital sorcery of their previous releases. Mixed by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Air, Beck). Features Assessment .
Hot Shots Ii (Bonus Tracks)
Hot Shots II is the quartet's most accomplished work yet, at once folky and futuristic, accessible yet adventurous, full of junkyard rhythms, dubbed out atmospherics and off-kilter pop. Think Beck meets Lee Perry meets Pink Floyd meets RZA meets the Beatles...well, you get the idea. The Beta Band's previous records have been lauded by Rolling Stone, Spin, LA Times, NY Times, Paper, Interview, Magnet, CMJ, Mean, Entertainment Weekly, Vibe, and countless others. Thier music was also featured in the hit film High Fidelity .
The Crane Wife
The Crane Wife is a resounding celebration of life. No matter how dark the words may get, the album's spirit is buoyed by boundless energy and an expansive musical vocabulary. Styles and influences abound -- shades of Pink Floyd, Yes, and Fairport Convention trade off with more anthemic touchstones like middle-period R.E.M., The Waterboys, and even early U2 - but the sound of The Decemberists is unique in contemporary pop music.

Hot Fuss
Hot Fuss features eleven nuggets of reel-you-in storytelling genius and musical nectar. These eleven tracks span from the very Vegas like Ziggy came to town first proper single release Somebody Told Me ; Mr Brightside - a tale of jealousy that depicts that moment in a relationship when you realize that your other half might be playing away and this thought takes up residence in your psyche feeding the worst fears and visualisations your imagination can then throw at you. You ll find two-thirds of a murder trilogy in Midnight Show , which starts off harking back to Lipgloss before veering into far darker territory than old Jarvis would ever have flirted with, in Pulp days at least, and Jenny . These two are connected by the story of a murder of a girl by her jealous boyfriend. The first part of the trilogy, Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf , will, you can be sure, make an appearance at some point in the future. It s a deliciously ambitious series that! belies the band s tender years. Elsewhere, meanwhile: On Top celebrates where Brandon feels the band is at, while stalker s tale Andy You re A Star and All These Things That I ve Done, saw Flowers realise his dream of using a gospel choir in their recordings.
Smash
The Offspring preserve the essential ingredients of their chosen genre--guitars grinding out three chords, shouted vocals, and plenty of vitriol--and layer them over a melodic base that packs considerable popular appeal. The singles from Smash, the Offspring's breakthrough album, still receive considerable radio airplay: Gotta Get Away, Come Out and Play, and Self Esteem. With these and Smash's 11 other tracks, the band chronicles the adolescent experience with clarity and surprisingly incisive wit. That pretty much describes all of their albums, but this is the one to get. It's got more shape than their earlier material and isn't as disturbingly poppy as their more recent recordings; it's the perfect blend of riffs and rage.
Broken Boy Soldiers
The Raconteurs are a new band made up of old friends, consisting of Jack Lawrence (bass), Patrick Keeler (drums), Brendan Benson (guitars, vocals, keys) and Jack White(guitars, vocals, keys). The seed was sewn in an attic in the middle of a hot summer when friends Jack White and Brendan Benson got together and wrote a song that truly inspired them. This song was Steady, As She Goes and the inspiration led to the creation of a full band with the addition of Lawrence and Keeler. While each of these four individuals have had successful careers with their own bands, the culmination of all of their talents is what truly makes The Raconteurs a force to be reckoned with.
Game Theory(Explicit Version)
Despite what critics might have said about their two previous efforts, true hip-hop heads know that the Roots never fell off. On their seventh studio album, Philadelphia's favorite sons continue to elevate their signature sound that has for years appealed to rap purists and staggered the more critical listeners who love to lament the lack of musicianship in hip-hop. Fans who were worried about how the crew's style would mesh with the Def Jam formula will be relieved from the gate, as the intro (an eerily ambient reworking of the Jay Dee-produced Fantastic intro) gives way to the upbeat, drum-driven False Media. Equally relieving to longtime Roots fans is the return of Malik B whose aggressive delivery again provides balance to Black Thought's more measured cadence. On the whole, GAME THEORY contains heavier subject matter; the politics of the day pervade virtually every track, while the tone ranges from heated urgency ( Don't Feel Right and In The Music ) to the uplifting and soulful ( Baby and Long Time ) to sad introspection ( Atonement and the bonus track tribute to the late Jay Dee). GAME THEORY is hip-hop with a message and shows us an angrier, more impassioned group of artists eager to tackle the issues confronting their community, yet still doing it with true bounce. Track Listing 1. Dilltastic Vol Won(derful) 2. False Media 3. Game Theory - (with Malik B.) 4. Don't Feel Right - (with Maimouna Youssef) 5. In The Music - (featuring Malik B./Porn) 6. Orphans
A veritable godsend for Tom Waits fans (and a fun place for the uninitiated to plunge in feet first), Orphans is a 3-disc, 54-track set that brings together previously unheard material from various stages of Waits's career. The songs are grouped by style. The first disc, Brawlers, contains raucous stomps and uptempo jams, the second disc, Bawlers, is full of lyrical balladry, and the third, Bastards, is a hodge-podge of experimental tunes and covers. Many of the songs are outtakes from studio albums, while others are the results of outside projects or one-off oddities. Waits's unique sensibility is in full flower throughout the set: his gruff croon, barks, and howls; the insistent clanking of strange percussion; and his evocative, detail-rich lyrics are all on ample display. From the spooky rave-up of Lie to Me through the heartrending beauty of Shiny Things and the familiar strains of Goodnight Irene, to his off-kilter cover of Daniel Johnston's King Kong, ORPHANS is packed with spectacular surprises. Add beautiful packaging and a lyric book complete with rare photos, and ORPHANS becomes another must-have document from one of music's most imaginative and consistently enjoyable artists. 10,000 Days
Tool's sophisticated art-metal approach (some regard them as prog-metal) is marked by unrelenting aggression and focused intensity. The band's use of serpentine, syncopated rhythms, and tight staccato guitar riffs topped by singer Maynard James Keenan's passionate-but-controlled vocal style separates Tool from the slash-and-burn overkill approach of so many of their heavy rock contemporaries. The band first came to public attention in the waning days of the grunge boom, but have long outlasted that transient era with their dark, brooding vision.
